Mathematics is the most beautiful and most powerful creation of the human spirit
Dec 22, 2020 - Mathematics is very important in every corner of human activities1️⃣2️⃣. The beauty and power of mathematics lie in its concepts✖️➕➗➖. That is why human beings use mathematical concepts to design models, which help them to achieve their goals🏅🥇. Due to its usefulness in science and technology💻, it is named as the language of science🌐 #mathematics #math #maths #science #mathematician #physics #mathproblems #mathmemes #education #mathteacher #algebra #calculus #mathskills #mathstudent #maths

Mathematics is the most Beautiful and most Powerful Creation of the Human Spirit
Eric Hagenimana
Mathematics is hugely applied in all aspect of engineering. For example, mathematics plays a crucial role in the following engineering branches: civil engineering, chemical and petroleum engineering, mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering, to mention but a few.

In this paper, the results of a case study are presented. The study was the outcome of continued collaboration of researchers meeting at MACAS 1, and deals with the possible connections between students’ performances when working with traditional math tests and open-ended real-world tasks respectively. About 200 students enrolled in a calculus course at the University of Southern Denmark worked in groups on a Model Eliciting Activity (Lesh & Doerr, 2003), and data from this along with data from both traditional standardised pre- and post-tests were collected and analysed. It was concluded that little correspondence can be detected between the students’ performances in the two types of mathematical domains, and some possible explanations for this are offered in the paper.

I am not sure how many of the readers of the Gazette are aware of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), based at Muizenberg in South Africa. Muizenberg is a small beach community about half an hour's drive from Cape Town CBD, situated on the eastern coast of the Cape of Good Hope. AIMS has gorgeous views down the Coast of the Cape Hope Ranges (an extension of Table Mountain) and across False Bay.

!part from its integral application in sciences and engineering, mathematics also helps to
understand simple issues that can ta&e people hours or even days to understand. /et ta&e an
eample of a person who wants to fill a certain tan& of a given volume with water. /et the flow
rate of water coming into the tan& be and the radius and height of the tan& be ; and H
respectively. 3ow, let help the person to estimate how long it will ta&e him to fill the tan& of the
given dimensions.how the volume of water in the tan& changes with time. $iven that the volume %2+ of the tan& is
V = π HR 2
then the change in volume of water in the tan&
d ( π HR 2 ) dt = , where is the
rate at which the water is flowing into the tan&. The only variable in the relation above is H,
hence, we can write the following
dH dt = F / πR 2 . By integrating ∫ 0 H dH = ∫ 0 t F π R 2 dt the
results of the integration yields the relationship between the level %H+ of water in the tan& and the
time %t+ ta&en to fill up to that level, which is
t = H πR 2 F
. /et assume a tan& of H= >m, ;=

down the compleity of the situation and made it easy for the person to &now how long it will
ta&e him to fill the tan&. This eample reveals the beauty and power of mathematics in even
things that we cannot relate with mathematics.
